Platform overview
What it is
The National Digital Data Platform (PDND) is the infrastructure that enables the secure, standardized exchange of data through a unified access point to the catalog of e-services. Parties subscribe, publish their e-services, and access those of other parties through uniform authentication, authorization, and tracking processes.
It was established by Article 50-ter of the Digital Administration Code (CAD), which defines its purposes and stakeholders.
Objectives
- Simplification of administrative procedures, reducing time and burdens.
- Interoperability among parties, thanks to shared technical and operational rules.
- Governance and transparency, through tracking and control of administrative operations.
The “once only” principle
PDND implements the “once only” principle: administrations do not request again from citizens and businesses information already held by other Public Administrations, as they can retrieve it via the e-services of the data-holding parties.
Benefits
For parties, organizations, and businesses: standardized access to information, homogeneous authorization processes, reuse of assessments, and greater organizational efficiency.
For citizens: faster procedures, fewer repeated formalities, and more consistent digital services nationwide.
Data management
The data for which producers are responsible do not pass through and are not stored in PDND; the platform does not archive the contents exchanged between parties. (Art. 50-ter, paragraph 3, CAD)
State of the art
The AgID Guidelines on PDND define the platform’s technical specifications and functionalities. With reference to the 2025 update, some of the newly introduced features are currently on the roadmap or under development and will be made available soon. This guide is updated progressively and provides the operational details required to use the functionalities available today.
