Authenticating citizens with certainty
The functions institutions can use to authenticate citizens with certainty with IO are:

| Strong authentication with SPID (Public Digital Identity System) or CIE (Electronic Identity Card) | Italian citizens and people resident in Italy with SPID or CIE can access their digital identity | ✅ |
| Permanent session verified with biometrics | Access with SPID or CIE will be necessary in app only when used for the first time: then the identity will be validated by means of biometric recognition and cryptographic mechanisms | in roadmap |
| SSO function in app (webview) | Citizens can access a web page presented by the institution in the app via webview as already authenticated users | in roadmap |
| SSO function in the device (browser) | Citizens can access a web page presented by the institution as already authenticated users | in roadmap |
| IO-Connect | The identity of uses can be enriched with certified information, obtained by means of interoperability by third party public institutions | in roadmap |
